THE WHOLE OF SERBIA ON ITS FEET: Students from all parts of the country are getting closer to Novi Sad, a large column has departed from Belgrade!

Students who invited citizens to a major commemorative gathering on November 1 are today marching on foot toward Novi Sad from all parts of Serbia.

Several hundred students and citizens departed today from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts on a two-day walk to Novi Sad, where on November 1 a commemorative gathering will be held to mark the anniversary of the collapse of the canopy at the city’s railway station and the deaths of 16 people.

It is planned that in front of the College of Health Studies in Zemun, at 11:52 a.m., they will hold a moment of silence for the victims of the canopy collapse, after which they will continue toward Inđija, where they will spend the night.

Traffic police are escorting the procession, and a tractor is leading the column, reported a FoNet journalist.

Veljko Bajraktarević, a student of the Faculty of Political Sciences, said earlier this morning for N1 that this is where the first break will be, and that they will observe 16 minutes of silence.

“After that comes Batajnica, Nova Pazova, Stara Pazova, I hope we’ll reach Inđija around 9 p.m., where we’ll settle down, have something to eat, just like the first time we went — we really have beautiful impressions,” he said.

He added that they had made arrangements with both the police and the tractor drivers.

“The most necessary things will be with us in our backpacks — maybe some water, sweet snacks, some basic items, medicines. In the larger bags that will be in the vans are other things — shirts, pants, clothes, and other important items that can’t be carried and would make the walk more difficult,” he said.

An N1 reporter added that whistles and megaphones are prepared for the march, but that the students said they will not be needed at the gathering on November 1, as it is a commemorative event.

Citizens of Zemun, at Aviatičarski Square and along the Main Street, are greeting the students who today set off on their two-day walk to Novi Sad, where on November 1 the anniversary of the collapse of the railway station canopy and the deaths of 16 people will be marked.

Before entering Zemun, citizens along Nikola Tesla Boulevard brought refreshments for the students — coffee, fruit, sweets, snacks, water, and energy drinks.

From the starting point of the walk — the Faculty of Dramatic Arts — many citizens are greeting the students with shouts of “Pumpaj,” while drivers are honking their horns, reported FoNet.

At 11:52 a.m., the students will pay a sixteen-minute tribute to the victims of the Novi Sad tragedy in front of the College of Health Studies.
