The Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) has distanced itself from the views expressed in the text on its official website, which stated that students “live in parallel universes”, stating that the text reflects only the personal view of the signatory, and in no way reflects the views of Patriarch Porfirije.
The text “Parallel Universe or Contribution of Student Protests to Contemporary Science” was published yesterday on the SPC website and delivered to the media in a statement by the SPC Information Service, and the signatory of the text is an employee of the Serbian Patriarchate – Dušan Stokanović.
The Church also states that on their official website can be found a multitude of authored texts and publicly expressed views on theological and social issues.

“With the firm intention that this denial stop the unfounded insults, threats and attacks on the Patriarch, we remind you that the mentioned text is the author’s reaction to the screening of the performance at three Belgrade faculties in the blockade and the interruption of the Saint Sava Academy in Matica Srpska,” the statement said.
According to the SPC, Patriarch Porfirije, as a university professor and spiritual leader, always talks directly with students, not through statements, “with full respect for their intelligence and good intentions.”
“All public appearances and messages of His Holiness regarding the current situation, available to the public in their entirety, do not provide grounds for hate speech and inaccurate interpretations of his views,” the statement added.
