A new student protest titled “Serbia LLC” will be held today starting at 7:30 PM in front of the Niš City Assembly, from where the procession will start a protest walk towards the “Čair” sports hall.
The rally is being organized to express dissatisfaction with the announced privatization of several public enterprises, report Južne vesti.
In their call, the students from Niš state that the list of companies planned for privatization includes the national parks Fruška Gora, Đerdap, and Tara, as well as Putevi Srbije, Službeni Glasnik, Srbijavode, Srbijašume, Skijališta Srbije, Pošta Srbije, and JP Stara Planina.
“Although this is only two percent of the total number of public enterprises, it represents over 20,000 jobs, or a quarter of all employees in public enterprises, and a fifth of the total revenue of this sector—almost a billion euros annually. Every stone, every tree, and every drop of water concerns us. Every part of this country concerns us, because it is not the property of political groups, tycoons, or foreign investors. It belongs to the people,” stated the Informal Group of Students.
