The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna today prevented an attempt to display and promote symbols of the terrorist organization “KLA” during the “Zero Project” Conference, which is being held at the United Nations premises in Vienna until February 20.
As stated in the announcement published on the website of the Permanent Mission of Serbia to the OSCE, during the first day of the Conference, one of the participants with the initials E. Sh., who presents herself as the alleged “ambassador of goodwill of Kosovo to the International Human Rights Commission,” appeared with a beret featuring the emblem of the terrorist organization “KLA.”
The Mission of the Republic of Serbia pointed out to the UN Office without delay the unacceptability and inappropriateness of such conduct by the participant, bearing in mind that items with symbols of the terrorist organization “KLA” carry serious historical and political sensitivity, and that their display implies the promotion of the ideas they represent, which is unacceptable within a gathering dedicated to universal topics and violates the neutrality of the UN space.

“The competent UN services reacted promptly and professionally, removed the disputed item, and made it clear to the participant that the display of such and similar inappropriate symbols will not be allowed during conferences and gatherings in UN premises,” the statement added.
It is emphasized that the Mission of the Republic of Serbia will continue to react consistently and decisively to every attempt to politicize events within international organizations, especially when it comes to the misuse of gatherings dedicated to universal topics such as the rights of persons with disabilities.
“The Mission remains firmly committed to protecting the interests of the Republic of Serbia, as well as preserving the dignity of the UN space and the principles on which this organization rests,” the statement of the Permanent Mission of Serbia emphasizes.
The “Zero Project” Conference represents an international gathering dedicated to the advancement of the rights of persons with disabilities and the promotion of inclusive policies and practices.
It is organized by a network of non-governmental organizations and foundations, with the participation of a significant number of representatives of civil society, the professional public, and persons with disabilities, while the UN premises in Vienna are used exclusively as a venue for the gathering, without an organizational or programmatic role in the event itself.
