Citizens of Serbia protested tonight against the violence and pressure being exerted in local communities in Šabac and Pećinci, where people supporting student protests and blockades have come under attack from local powerful figures and criminal gangs.
Protests were held tonight on the streets of Šabac, where citizens marched to the SNS (Serbian Progressive Party) premises and then pelted them with eggs. The gathered citizens threw eggs and plastic bottles at the SNS offices in Šabac, chanting and singing. The main message heard was “Aco, call elections!“
The protests followed an incident where three masked attackers demolished the “Katić” fish shop in Šabac with hammers and stones, due to its owner’s support for student protests.
Pećinci and Srem Rise for Watermelon Farmer
Additionally, residents of the village of Ašanja in the Pećinci municipality blocked the main intersection in the town due to pressure on farmer Zoran Radojčić by local authorities, primarily, they say, from the local powerful figure Milorad Pantić Luki.
Citizens of Ašanja gathered in the central part of the village, and in addition to local residents, citizens from other parts of Serbia, representatives of the Initiative for the Survival of Farmers of Serbia, the Democratic Party, and members of the Radojčić family were also present.
They gave the “local sheriffs” and competent institutions a 7-day deadline to “return everything to the initial state” and cease the pressures, stating that if this does not happen, the protests will intensify.
Farmer Zoran Radojčić, according to Nova’s reporter, is not present because he fears for his safety and is therefore in another city.
Citizens blocked traffic, and three police patrols were present to secure the area.
The protest began at 7:00 PM. The protest is being held in this town because the Radojčić family is from here, and the aforementioned local SNS strongman Pantić Luka also has a shop at the exact protest location.
Watermelon producer Zoran Radojčić stated he began experiencing pressure and blackmail two years ago, and a few days ago, tax police raided his property. This farmer from Pećinci told N1 that he is currently the most wanted person, the popular ‘Srem Pablo Escobar,’ all due to his conflict with the local authorities, specifically the local strongman – Milorad Pantić Luki.
