The US Open has announced that a Serbian combination will also compete in a never-before-seen format for mixed doubles.
This tournament will be held on August 19 and 20, and the champion will ultimately take home one million dollars. This is planned during the so-called introductory week of the US Open when qualifications are played, which is a completely different format for doubles.
Previously, they were played a few days after the start of the singles, but now the mixed doubles tournament will be completed in two days and exactly four days before the start of the last Grand Slam of the season (starting August 24).
Among the 16 registered teams is the Serbian doubles pair consisting of Novak Đoković and Olga Danilović.
Eight doubles pairs with the best combined singles ranking will go directly into the draw (cut-off is July 28). The others will receive a special invitation.
The list includes Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro, Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti, Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev, Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas, Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios, Iga Świątek and Casper Ruud, Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz.
Sets will be shortened to four games, with no-ad scoring, a tie-break at 4-4, and a super tie-break to 10 in place of a third set.
