Siniša Jokić, the uncle of the famous basketball player Nikola Jokić, was among the people for whom an arrest warrant was issued as part of the investigation into the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station.

The action is being carried out by the police on the order of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, and the arrests of several people connected to this case are underway, Blic has learned.

Jokić is a long-time member of the Serbian Progressive Party and a prominent figure in Novi Sad’s public life. By profession, he is a historian, and he held the position of director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Novi Sad from 2016 to the end of October 2024. He resigned from this position on October 27, just four days before the accident at the station.

During his mandate, the restoration of numerous facades and buildings of historical importance in Novi Sad was initiated. The project of restoring the facades of old buildings was presented as one of the most important urban undertakings in the city, and Jokić was then publicly singled out as one of the key people in that process.

After his resignation, Jokić moved to the position of curator at the Museum of the City of Novi Sad. His name is now mentioned in the context of a serious investigation into possible omissions related to infrastructure projects at the railway station, including the period when he was responsible for the protection of cultural assets in the city.
