Spain has been hit by a new disaster caused by sudden floods, as heavy rains have caused cars to float in the streets of Girona.
A powerful torrent of water swept away everything in its path, including more than 30 vehicles, as it passed through the center of the Catalan town of Cadaqués in the Girona region. The mayor of Girona, Pia Serinyana, stated that a total of 32 cars were carried away by the water, and many ended up piled up on top of each other near the bridge in front of the city casino.
Despite the significant material damage, it is a miracle that no human casualties were reported in this former fishing village.

The Catalan Meteorological Agency, Meteocat, released footage of the flood and reported that more than 100 mm of rain had fallen. “This is what Cadaqués looks like after intense and continuous rain this morning,” they said.
One local resident wrote on the X network: “The situation is very serious in Cadaqués. Dozens of cars have been carried away by the swollen river in the city center, blocking the bridge. It has been many years since something like this has happened.”

“If this torrent had passed through the city during the day, we would certainly have had mass casualties”
The mayor confirmed that no one was injured or killed and that only material damage was caused.

The number of cars carried away by the torrent reached 32, a local official said, noting that despite warnings, residents had parked cars that later ended up in the water. The heaviest rain fell between 2 and 3 am.

Cadaqués is located about 200 kilometers north of Valencia, where 202 people died in similar floods last month, while 78 people are still missing. This municipality in the province of Girona, popular with tourists, is known for the Salvador Dalí Museum.
