On Holy Thursday around 6:20 p.m. at the “Gazprom” gas station in Mali Požarevac in the Belgrade municipality of Sopot, an extraordinary situation occurred that left all the present workers in wonder. A baby was brought into the world.

Since the employees at the station were so surprised and caught off guard by the situation, they admit they didn’t even have time to ask whether it was a girl or a boy.

“The most important thing is that it cried out,” says Maja Živanović, the shift manager at the Gazprom station in Mali Požarevac who happened to be on the scene.

“We don’t even know if the car with the mother stopped at our parking lot to pour fuel, or to buy something else; only at one moment another customer ran into the station and said that a woman was giving birth. We immediately called an ambulance, but by the time they arrived, the baby’s father was already delivering the mother and completed the delivery,” Živanović says.

As the worker says, she didn’t have the impression they were expecting the birth, because they didn’t have any items with them, so they wrapped the baby in a small towel until the ambulance arrived.

“The only thing we know is that this is the mom’s third birth. We gave paper towels, wipes, everything that could be found at the station at that moment and be of use,” recalls Živanović.

They say that the father immediately left behind the ambulance and that they have no further information, and they say jokingly that they might have gotten a new Gazprom manager.

The mother and the newborn are, fortunately, well, and were subsequently transported to GAK Višegradska for check-ups and further care.
