Metropolitan Justin of Žiča was dismissed from the episcopal throne at the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, after a months-long procedure.
27 hierarchs voted for the dismissal of Metropolitan Justin of Žiča.
Six hierarchs dissented, namely: Joanikije, Teodosije, Ignjatije, Grigorije, Maksim, and Dimitrije.
As we wrote earlier, the hierarchs were expected to consider the possibility of his defrocking, that is, his final removal from the episcopal throne, after a months-long procedure that caused deep divisions among believers and the clergy, especially due to the fact that Bishop Justin was one of the few in the SOC who openly supported the student movement and opened the monastery doors in his Eparchy to accommodate walking students.
According to the information obtained by the Nova.rs portal, Bishop Justin’s defense was made as difficult as possible, so on the eve of the Assembly, he received extensive documentation to which he had to respond in less than two weeks.
The documentation delivered to Justin numbers several hundred pages, and he was banned from communicating and consulting with a lawyer or associates.
