An armed attacker killed at least 10 people and wounded another 10 in an attack that occurred in the Bekkersdal settlement, 40 kilometers southwest of Johannesburg, local police announced today.
The motive for the attack is still unknown, and according to a police statement, the attacker randomly opened fire on passersby in the streets, CBS reports.
“Ten people were killed. We do not have precise information about their identities,” police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said.
At least ten people were injured and were transported to the hospital.
This is the second mass attack in South Africa this month, after armed attackers stormed a hostel near Pretoria on December 6, killing 12 people, including a three-year-old child.
