Serbia’s new Prime Minister, Đuro Macut, and his wife purchased a villa worth over one million euros in Zvezdara two weeks ago from Tomislav Bogetić, the former director of the public enterprise “Beograd put,” KRIK reveals. In addition to this property, Macut already owns four apartments in Belgrade.

Almost ten days after Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that Medical Faculty professor and endocrinologist Đuro Macut would be the next Prime Minister, he expanded his real estate portfolio with a luxurious property.

On April 14th, this doctor, previously unknown to the public, signed a contract to purchase a 193-square-meter villa located in the wider city center, in the Zvezdara municipality, according to cadastral data. While the exact purchase price is unknown, a real estate appraisal agency engaged by KRIK estimated the market value of the villa to be over one million euros.

“It is a built family residential building with a footprint of 193 m2, a construction area of 508 m2, in Belgrade, Zvezdara municipality. The market value of the building and plot ranges from 1 to 1.2 million euros,” the agency informed us.

Macut and his wife bought this villa from Tomislav Bogetić, the former director of JKP “Beograd put” and a former official of the Democratic Party of Serbia.

The contract was signed the day before Macut was voted in as Prime Minister in the Serbian Parliament.

Besides this villa, Macut already owns several other properties. He possesses four apartments – two in Voždovac, one in Savski venac, and one in New Belgrade. These apartments together total 378 square meters. He also owns a 16-square-meter garage in Voždovac.

KRIK journalists attempted to contact Macut through the “Experta Medica” clinic where he works and through his government cabinet. The cabinet informed them that he was unavailable that day.

Bogetić answered a phone call but stated that he could not comment on the case as he was abroad.

Who is Đuro Macut?

Until his appointment as Prime Minister, Macut was largely unknown to the general public.

He was one of the professors who visited and supported the camp near the Presidency, publicly known as “Ćacilend,” where students gathered who opposed student blockades and supported President Aleksandar Vučić.

At the end of January, he also spoke at a Serbian Progressive Party rally in Jagodina.

Upon his election as Prime Minister, Macut stated in the National Assembly that he accepted Vučić’s proposal as an obligation.

“Today, I have come to this house of our statehood to tell the people’s representatives and citizens that I am a man and a son of my people, a lover of our kin, and, if I receive your support, your ruler and your brother, that I have accepted the duty given to me unconditionally as an obligation that befell me and that I could not avoid as a faithful son of my homeland, because in that way I would avoid my obligation to my people and state,” said Macut on April 15th, when he presented the program of the new government.

The Prime Minister’s wife, Jelica Bjekić Macut, is also an endocrinologist.
