A segment of the U.S. Democratic Party that considers itself progressive has warned Vice President Kamala Harris that in her presidential candidacy, she risks losing the support of a small but significant portion of her political base if she does not immediately change the concluding message of her campaign, AP reports today. Specifically, several progressive leaders believe that the Democratic candidate has been too focused in recent days on appealing to moderate Republicans at the expense of liberals in her party.

According to their assessments, Harris—who is increasingly focused on her electoral opponent, Republican Donald Trump, and the threat he allegedly poses to American democracy—has ignored the economic struggles of the working class in the country in her closing messages.
Some leaders of the American far-left are also angry that Harris has shared the stage in recent days with former Republican House leader Liz Cheney and billionaire businessman Mark Cuban.
On the other hand, progressive icons like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have been relegated to secondary roles.
“The truth is that there are many more working-class people who could vote for Kamala Harris than there are conservative Republicans who would do so,” Sanders told AP.
Sanders noted that he has done everything asked of him to help Harris win. He participated in about twenty campaign events for Harris just this month, although they were mostly in rural areas. Harris was not present at any of them.
“She needs to start talking more about the needs of working-class people. I wish this had happened two months ago. But it is what it is,” Sanders said.
Harris’s campaign believes that her main political obstacle is the perception that she is too left-leaning.
Trump’s allies accuse the former California senator of being a “radically left liberal.”
As a result, AP writes, she has hesitated to appear in her campaign alongside progressive icons like Sanders, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist.
Instead, Harris has appeared three times this week with Cheney, a conservative who was an ally of Trump before turning against him after the January 6, 2021, attack by pro-Trump rioters on the Capitol.
