The Specialized Chambers in The Hague announced today that former KLA member Ismet Bahtijari has entered a plea agreement, admitting guilt to charges of obstructing an official in the performance of duty and witness intimidation in a criminal proceeding.

Bahtijari admitted that certain facts presented in the indictment could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and that they are true and accurate, according to the Specialized Chambers’ statement.

Former KLA members Hadži Shala and Sabit Januzi also reached agreements with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office yesterday, admitting guilt to charges of witness intimidation and obstruction of justice.

As stated, the trial panel is currently reviewing the plea agreements reached in this case.

Shala, Januzi, and Bahtijari were accused of threatening, including issuing death threats and offering “assistance” in an attempt to dissuade a witness from testifying at the trial of former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi, who are charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity during 1998-99 in Kosovo and Metohija.

The trial of Shala, Januzi, and Bahtijari was initially scheduled to begin on November 14 but was postponed at the request of the parties involved in the proceedings.
