President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić received an “uncomfortable” question during a tour of Nova Varoš and a conversation with citizens. Namely, a woman from the audience asked him, as well as the president of the municipality of Nova Varoš and the director of Srbijašume, why, after collecting votes for the 2020 parliamentary elections, she did not get the job that was promised to her.
“The last two questions,” Aleksandar Vučić said on stage in Nova Varoš while chanting “Aco, Serb” could be heard in the background.
Namely, a female citizen asked him, as well as the acting director of “Srbijašume” Krsto Janjušević and the president of the municipality of Nova Varoš Branko Bjelić, who were standing behind Vučić on stage – why she did not get the job that was promised to her, and, as she said, she had collected votes for the 2020 parliamentary elections.
“Can Krsto Janjušević and Branko Bjelić answer me, in 2020 I was promised that I would get a job. I was told then that if I collect a certain number of votes, I will get a job. Bjelić is my neighbor and since then he doesn’t know how to say ‘good day’. I am interested in why I didn’t get that job, when it was promised to me that I would,” the citizen asked.
Although she did not specify which job was in question, nor for which political option she collected votes – she claims to have evidence that she collected them.
To that, the president initially said, probably answering someone who heckled, that “we will not remove anyone while I am here, no one here is paid and everyone has the right to say what they want.”
Then he asked the woman to let him answer her, saying that she had spoken for five minutes about what she wanted. And then he told her that whatever she had with Janjušević and Bjelić – she should resolve with the two of them.
“What you have with the two of them, you will resolve with the two of them. Why didn’t you go to their municipality office?”, Vučić asked her, to which the woman replied that she did.
After that, the president turned to the other side to hear the last question and said, again probably based on what someone from the audience heckled, “do not divide people for me by religious affiliation.”
“I am addressing Bosniaks as well, and the fact that I am a Serb of Orthodox faith does not mean that I will not show respect to Bosniaks of Islamic faith. Now speak and ask your question,” Vučić concluded.
Nova Varoš new promises
As a reminder, Vučić promised the locals that the state would finance the construction of a water supply network in Nova Varoš, as well as a ski slope to boost the arrival of tourists.
He was surprised by dozens of requests for the construction of local roads, because the residents of that municipality asked for asphalt paving ranging from a few kilometers to 80 meters – “to the house,” and even to one of the village cemeteries over a length of about six kilometers.
“I cannot haggle with everyone over roads, we will build 25-30 kilometers, which will cost seven to eight million euros, and you agree on which roads those will be,” Vučić told the gathered locals in that town, visibly annoyed after requests for road construction were presented to him several times, as well as because they interrupted him.
He stressed that he does not remember feeling so bad, as if he came “to an execution,” and told the president of the municipality Branko Bijelić that he must go to the villages and talk to the citizens, but that he should not promise what he cannot fulfill.
As a reminder, the president of Serbia recently stated that he is not “in any official campaign” and that he will “continue to do his job diligently and honorably until the last day of staying in the Presidency building.”
Asked by N1 whether he was in an official campaign given that he was touring Serbia, Vučić said that he “apologizes” for not going on vacation, not sunbathing, and for doing his job.
