European Commission spokesperson Anita Hipper stated, regarding information that Russian operatives had trained Moldovan citizens on the territory of Serbia to incite “mass riots” ahead of the elections in that country, that she believes in the ability of Moldovan institutions to conduct an independent investigation.
She told a news conference, when asked about the training in Serbia, that the Moldovan authorities informed them that these operations and training took place on the territory of Serbia.
According to Moldovan data, 74 people have been arrested so far and are cooperating with the police, she said, expressing belief in the ability of Moldovan institutions to conduct an independent investigation and ensure a fair, lawful process, without any external interference.
Regarding the Russian intelligence report that the European Union is planning the destabilization of Serbia, Anita Hipper said that she would not engage in such propaganda, assessing that it is a matter of spreading misinformation.
This is another attempt by Russia to spread false information and hostile political rhetoric not only against the EU and its members, but also against candidate countries, said Anita Hipper.
