The Ministry of Information and Telecommunications of Serbia announced today that the deadline for using unregistered prepaid mobile numbers has been extended until April 10.
The previously announced registration deadline of February 10 has been extended through an amendment to the Rulebook on Technical Requirements for Prepaid Service Registration, allowing continued use of prepaid numbers until April 10. This extension gives existing users additional time to register their prepaid numbers before service suspension, the statement said.
After that, and no later than May 25, 2025, unregistered users will only be able to make calls necessary for registration and emergency services, the ministry added.

New Registration Rules for Prepaid Users
Starting February 10, 2025, all new prepaid users will need to register in person at service provider offices with an identification document or online, using a basic-level electronic identification scheme.
The ministry also reminded that mandatory registration was introduced by the Electronic Communications Act, adopted in 2023, following the example of most EU and global countries.
Prepaid Registration in Europe and Worldwide
According to Cullen International’s research, conducted in 20 European countries, 14 countries have already established mandatory prepaid number registration.
Additionally, data published by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) shows that by the end of 2020, around 150 countries worldwide had already implemented mandatory prepaid number registration to prevent terrorism and other criminal activities linked to the anonymous use of prepaid SIM cards.
The ministry advised users to contact their selected operator for more detailed information on the registration process.
