U.S. President Donald Trump said today that new talks with Iran are planned for next week and assessed that Tehran “very desperately” wants to reach an agreement with Washington.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said that delegations from the two countries held “very good talks” yesterday in Oman.
“Iran is showing a strong desire to reach an agreement, but it remains to be seen what the terms of any potential deal will be,” he said, CNN reported.
Trump added that the United States has strong military capabilities and that the U.S. army and fleet are moving toward the region.
According to him, Iran is aware of the consequences if no agreement is reached, stressing that they would be serious.
The U.S. delegation at the talks in Oman included special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and the commander of U.S. Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper.
The United States and Iran agreed to hold additional talks after consultations with their respective capitals, following the negotiations in Oman, which both sides are cautiously assessing as a positive step forward, Tanjug reports.
