The entire region mourns the tragic death of priest Nenad Mitric and his wife Nedeljka, who died in a horrific accident in the town of Novo Selo, in the municipality of Brod, when the “Opel” they were in with their three children collided with a truck.
The little ones were urgently transferred to the hospital in Slavonski Brod, and one child was subsequently moved to KBC Zagreb to the intensive care unit.
Father Nenad had been assigned to the parish in Pojezna since May 2022, and the mayor of Derventa declared Sunday, April 5, 2026, as a Day of Mourning due to the tragic passing of Nenad and his wife.
The parish priest of the Lamovita parish, priest Darko Mamuza, said goodbye to Father Nenad, who was also his school friend, with poignant words.
“Dear brothers and sisters, it is with sadness in our hearts that we inform you that on April 2, in a traffic accident, my school friend and archpriest Nenad Mitric and his wife, priest’s wife Neda, tragically perished. They left behind three minor children who, in these difficult days, need our love, prayer, and support. Therefore, starting Sunday, April 5 (Palm Sunday), a box for voluntary donations will be placed in our temple. We invite everyone who is able to take part in this Christian active love, so that we can jointly help and ease the burden that has befallen this family. Let us pray to the Lord to grant rest to the souls of His newly departed servants in the dwellings of the righteous and grant them the Kingdom of Heaven, and to their children and relatives comfort, strength, and hope in the Resurrection,” stated Father Darko.
