After the press conference, Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dačić took journalists to the courtyard of the SIV building to show them a Gendarmerie vehicle with a mounted LRAD device and demonstrate how they work.
Members of the Novi Sad detachment of the Gendarmerie, whose vehicle with the LRAD device was photographed from the side of the National Assembly building, demonstrated the operation of these devices and played a message that, according to Dačić, was pre-recorded as a warning to demonstrators to disperse.
Gendarmerie members unpacked a smaller LRAD 100X and played the recorded sound.
Acting Director of Police Dragan Vasiljević said that the voice of the Gendarmerie detachment commander was recorded on the device.
When it was time to demonstrate the second, larger LRAD 450 XL device, which was on the mentioned Gendarmerie vehicle, there was a problem because its battery was not working. As Dačić and Vasiljević said, the device had never been used, it had been in storage for four years and the battery had lost its properties. Therefore, it must be mounted on a vehicle and connected to a battery to work. So the Gendarmerie members, in order to play the recorded warning sound, had to start the car.

Dačić asked the gendarmes to play the sound at maximum volume.
As he said, that’s all these devices can do and stressed that police officers have not been trained to use them in any other way or for any other purpose.

“That’s the space technology that’s being talked about. It’s a technical device, it’s not registered with us as a weapon. Our people have not been trained for it, nor do they know what they should play to harm someone. It is useful for our units dealing with public order and peace. As for the sound, they only use it to warn demonstrators to disperse, but even that has not been used. It has never been used,” the minister repeated.
He emphasized: “We have no other devices.”
Finally, he said that these devices are not considered weapons and that they are also available for free sale, which is why he showed an advertisement on Ebay for one such used device.
