Romanian stand-up comedian Dragoș Christian included in his performance a reaction to a Serbian tabloid’s report about Romanians allegedly planning to break into apartments in Belgrade during protests.
Namely, ahead of the large gathering on March 15, Informer published a story titled “We have learned: Romanians are coming to Serbia planning to break into apartments during protests,” and this chauvinistic rhetoric of regime media prompted a reaction from the Romanian Embassy.
In a statement, it strongly condemned this disinformation and the claims “which clearly promote elements specific to hate speech and influence the perception of Romanians in Serbian public opinion.”

Dragoș’s response was somewhat more direct—delivered as part of a stand-up performance, the recording of which is spreading across Serbian social media precisely because of this segment.
“I was in Belgrade, in Serbia, earlier this year. In Belgrade, if you don’t know, there are protests. Yes, all sorts of things are happening there. Student protests. And Serbia and Romania have always had good relations. But this year there were a few turbulences,” he introduced, before drawing attention to the controversial claims, which in his interpretation sound like: “Don’t go to protests against the government, because you know what will happen? Romanians will steal your TV. And everyone in Romania is like: ‘Excuse me? Do you know that Romania is in the European Union and Schengen?’” he reminded.
He then imagined the situation at the border if he were to go steal televisions in Serbia.
“They ask me: ‘Are you here for business or pleasure?’ ‘Actually, a bit of both. You know, if you love what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life. And I love a Samsung color TV…’”
