Several young men went swimming yesterday afternoon in Šparadići near Grebaštica, in Šibenik, but there they were met not by peace or sun, but by threats, curses, swinging a metal bar, and dousing with water from a garden hose.
As they state, they reached a concrete pier where they left their belongings, but soon they were attacked by two older men who claimed they were on a “private beach,” writes Šibenik.in.
The entire incident was recorded with a mobile phone, and the video shows one man swinging a metal bar, while the other douses the young men and their belongings with water.
The young men stated that they did not call the police because the men calmed down after a short time and retreated into the house.
-They realized they were wrong and retreated. We stayed to swim, of course, but they used terrible words, calling us Chetniks who were ruining their peace – they stated for Šibenik.in, reports Index.
They add that the whole situation was both funny and sad at the same time, and that it is regrettable that in Šparadići the coast is almost entirely occupied, full of concrete piers and arranged beaches.
-Natural rocks hardly exist here – they note.
According to the Croatian Law on Maritime Domain and Seaports, all beaches, piers, and the seashore fall under maritime domain, which means they are owned by the Republic of Croatia and accessible to all citizens.
-Maritime domain is a common good owned by the state and all citizens have the right to free use – states Articles 11 and 12 of the Law.
Even homeowners along the coast do not have the right to restrict access to the beach, unless they have a valid concession, and even then they are obliged to allow access in accordance with the law.
In the specific case in Šparadići, there were no markings, prohibitions, or evidence that a concession existed.
