The 30th Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO) was held in Buzău, Romania, where members of the Serbian team won three silver medals, two bronze medals, and one honorable mention, the Serbian Mathematical Society announced this evening.
The JBMO took place from June 15 to June 20 and brought together 133 competitors from 23 countries — 11 Balkan nations and 12 guest countries.
The selection of the Serbian team members, as well as their preparations for the competition, was organized by the Serbian Mathematical Society with the support of the Ministry of Education, the statement said.
At this prestigious mathematics competition, Serbian contestants achieved outstanding results, winning three silver medals, two bronze medals, and one honorable mention.
The silver medals were awarded to Gleb Sapozhnikov, a student at the “Jovan Jovanović Zmaj” High School in Novi Sad, and Ramazan Shakirov and Kosta Hil, both students of the Mathematical Gymnasium in Belgrade.
Bronze medals were won by Jovan Petronijević, a student at the “Svetozar Marković” High School in Niš, and Bogdan Milovanović, a student of the Mathematical Gymnasium in Belgrade.
An honorable mention was awarded to Vasilije Nedeljković, also a student of the Mathematical Gymnasium in Belgrade.
The team leader was Dr. Miloš Đorić, while Dr. Srđan Stefanović served as deputy leader. Both are members of the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Belgrade.
The authors of the first of the four competition problems at the 30th Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad were Ognjen Tešić and Dušan Drobnjak from the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Belgrade.
