The massacre that happened last week in an apartment in Vienna shocked all of Austria, but also Serbia. A Serb, N. M. (44), killed his wife Z. M. (44) on Tuesday evening, shot his daughter K. M. (26) and her boyfriend, and then committed suicide.
And then on Friday came the sad news – the daughter (26), whom her father shot in the head, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Children were also in the apartment at the time of the bloodshed, and they witnessed the horror.
According to investigators, the Serb wanted to take some of his personal belongings from the apartment. An argument broke out, and the Serb suddenly took out a pistol and shot. The investigation points to jealousy and a breakup as the motive.
His daughter’s boyfriend, who is now in stable condition, has already been questioned and confirmed the sequence of events. According to the police, the couple was still married but had already been separated and were in the process of divorce.
What is also shocking is that the suspect had long been known to the police. A ban on carrying weapons and a ban on entry were imposed on him in 2014 after an incident involving his wife. At that time, the children were also considered to be in danger.
Further accusations followed, including dangerous threats and a violation of gun laws. According to the police, the center for protection against violence was informed, and a procedure for a restraining order was initiated. According to Kronen Zeitung, the gun ban was still in effect at the time of the incident.
Why the judiciary never took tougher measures in this case remains unclear. The police investigation is still in full swing.
