A rare occurrence in Goraždevac – a domestic pig has given birth to 11 piglets. Seven of them resemble wild boars. This would have been highly unusual if the household had not noticed an unexpected visitor.
The uninvited guest first appeared in September last year at the Stevanović family farm in Goraždevac. It was a wild boar.
After settling in, the boar jumped over the wire fence and befriended one of the domestic pigs.
Four months later, 11 piglets were born – seven resembling wild boars, while the remaining four have the characteristics of domestic pigs.
“I thought my son was seeing things, maybe a wolf, or he didn’t recognize what it was. Until the 29th of last year, when it actually came right here, slowly. My son looked through the window and said, ‘There’s a wild boar.’ Then we waited to see how it would behave. It lingered around the pigs for a long time. We observed and watched. At one point, it jumped over the wire and stayed with this one,” says Miodrag Stevanović.
According to Miodrag, this is an unusual occurrence for their village, one that even the oldest residents do not remember happening before.
“Some might say this is nothing new. However, here in Goraždevac, such a case has never been recorded, and no one remembers anything like it. My father is 70 years old, and he has never heard of such a case. Goraždevac is a Metohija village on flat land, not a mountainous area where such things might happen,” says Stevanović.
In the meantime, interest in the piglets is growing. The Stevanović family plans to keep a few for themselves and sell the rest.
FIND OUT MORE:
As for the wild boar, it has not been seen on the Stevanović farm since its last visit, though rumors about it have been spreading in the village.
“It hasn’t appeared again. There are stories—it was seen here, seen there, caught or not caught—lots of things have been said, but nothing has been confirmed. But it really hasn’t come back. If it had visited another household, I believe we would have heard about it by now, someone would have reported it, but there’s been no trace,” says Stevanović.
The Stevanović family has profited well from the unusual visit of a wild animal to their home and says they wouldn’t mind another visit with the same outcome. In the meantime, they are carefully tending to their gift, preparing most of it for the market.
