“Dear students, citizens of Serbia, brothers and sisters, all of you who will be on the streets of Belgrade tomorrow, March 15, fighting for justice and truth—persistently, resolutely, and unwaveringly, but in a dignified, nonviolent, and peaceful way—take care and look out for each other. Because if you don’t, no one else will do it for you,” Bishop Grigorije stated.
“It is equally important to protect even those whose political beliefs and views you do not share, as they may, and likely will, be used and manipulated in an attempt to tarnish your peaceful and dignified struggle,” he said via the social media platform Instagram.
He emphasized that “the way students are fighting to have their demands met is admirable and worthy of respect.”
“Their approach is honorable, dignified, nonviolent, and guided by the highest human and moral principles. Even though they are just at the beginning of their lives, they are teaching all of us, even those much older, by example—how to be persistent, how not to give up or falter, how to remain incorruptible, honorable, and dignified, even when it is most difficult,” he said.
He described the students who are peacefully protesting as “the best that the people have produced.”
“They are our moral compass, our hope, and undeniable proof that as a nation, we still have a chance,” Bishop Grigorije said.
He also stressed that “we must all do everything we can to prevent anyone from tarnishing this noble struggle.”
