Ivan Vuković, Vice President of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and a member of the Montenegrin Parliament, was detained today in Belgrade. He was taken into custody by Serbia’s Security and Information Agency (BIA).

This information was confirmed to Vijesti by the DPS.

According to DPS sources, a close associate of Vuković, who was with him privately in Belgrade, reported that BIA officers arrested him as he was leaving the Hilton Hotel.

A Vijesti source who witnessed the arrest stated that several uniformed officers and two plainclothes agents, who identified themselves as BIA members, intercepted Vuković in front of the elevator and detained him.

Vuković reportedly told them that he was in Belgrade accompanying a family member who was there for medical reasons. He explained that they were preparing to return to Montenegro, but he was taken into custody regardless.

DPS officials told Vijesti that they currently have no information on Vuković’s whereabouts and are trying to secure legal representation for him.

Last night, Vuković shared a video from the protests in Belgrade on his Facebook page.

His arrest was publicly demanded this morning on the pro-government Pink TV by Serbian Radical Party leader and convicted Hague Tribunal war criminal Vojislav Šešelj.
