A new law is set to come into force in Sweden on January 1, 2026, which will allow individuals with residence permits who haven’t settled into life in Sweden to receive up to 600,000 Swedish Krona (approximately 51,500 euros) to return to their home countries.

This information was shared on social media by Mila Opalić, a former consul at the Serbian Embassy in Sweden.

“The Swedish government has announced an incentive, a new law that is expected to come into effect, stating that up to 600,000 Krona will be given to those who decide to leave Sweden and return to their home countries. All this information can be found on the government’s website, regeringen.se. They posted this news on April 23. This is part of the current Swedish government’s policy, led by the Moderate Party, with the support of the right-wing Sweden Democrats, who have a clear goal — to reduce the number of migrants as much as possible,” Opalić stated on TikTok, adding that the law is planned to take effect on January 1, 2026.

“For an individual, 350,000 Krona is offered, which is about 30,000 euros. However, we’re talking about people who have residency here, who work and live here, who are fully integrated into society here, but for some reason, feel they don’t belong. So, the state will give them about 30,000 euros to return to their countries. For minors, it will be 25,000 Krona, or about 2,000 euros; for married couples, 500,000 Krona, which is about 42,000-43,000 euros; and for an entire family, 600,000 Krona, or 52,000 euros,” she explained on her TikTok account, “mila.opalic.”

Here’s How the Incentives Look:

25,000 Krona (approx. 2,150 euros) for minors
350,000 Krona (approx. 30,000 euros) for adults
500,000 Krona (approx. 42,900 euros) for married couples
600,000 Krona (approx. 51,500 euros) for an entire family

The former consul says that once adopted, this will be a precedent, as no other European country allocates such significant funds.

“There are Denmark and Britain, but those are much, much smaller figures than what the Swedish government is now talking about,” she concluded.

This law has been widely reported by Swedish media. According to available information, those who accept this assistance must leave Sweden within one year and are not allowed to return; otherwise, they will be obligated to repay the received amount.
