The entire Balkans remained in shock after the tragic traffic accident on the Brod–Derventa road, in which priest Nenad Mitric and his wife Neda lost their lives, leaving behind three small children.
The children, who were in the car at the moment of the accident, survived and are currently stable and out of life-threatening danger, but a difficult life without parents awaits them. One of them will be transferred for further treatment to KBC Zagreb, while all are under constant medical supervision.
In moments of great sadness, a humanitarian action led by the Church of Saint Petka from Nashville was launched via the GoFundMe platform. In just one day, nearly 200,000 dollars in aid for the children was collected, and the amount continues to grow.
The donation from the famous basketball player Jusuf Nurkic, who paid 5,000 dollars—currently the largest single amount—attracted special public attention.

This gesture sparked numerous reactions throughout the region, and among those who publicly praised it is a priest from Canada, Jovica Cvetkovic, who emphasized in his message that the essence of everything is goodness.
“How beautiful it is to see goodness when it settles within a person, regardless of whether that someone is a believer or not, or what their faith is. Simply, goodness has the right to reside in every human soul,” Cvetkovic stated.
He particularly emphasized that in this case, it is not about the money, but about the humanity and compassion that transcends all differences.
“It is not about the money, but about the goodness,” he said, recalling numerous examples of unity among people of different faiths, such as Muslim families who guard Christian holy sites or friendships that built bridges between communities.
Cvetkovic ended his message with a powerful appeal for peace and unity:
“A brother is dear, whatever his faith, because we are all children of God.”
