The selector of the cadet national team of Serbia, Stevan Mijovic, was named the best coach of the U17 World Championship, following a brilliant tournament in which the Eaglets won the silver medal.

Mijovic reached the final with the young national team of Serbia and once again confirmed the quality of work with younger selections, which is why FIBA awarded him the recognition for the best strategist of the championship.

Who is this young selector?

Stevan Mijovic is considered one of the most promising young Serbian basketball coaches.

He was born on July 15, 1993, in Kragujevac. As a player, he performed for Boox Computers, Kolonac, and Radnicki from Kragujevac, but very early on he decided that coaching would be his life’s calling. He graduated from the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, majoring as a basketball coach.

He started his career in 2012 at Crvena zvezda, where he worked with the youth categories. During that period, he won several national titles, as well as the Junior EuroLeague, and for one season he was also an assistant coach of the first team. After Zvezda, he moved to KK Dynamic, where he continued to develop young players, and later led Kolubara, Radnicki from Kragujevac, and FMP. At just 31 years old, he was the youngest coach in the Basketball League of Serbia.

In March 2025, he was appointed as the selector of the cadet national team of Serbia, with which he achieved great success. At the U17 World Championship, he won the silver medal, and was subsequently named the best coach of the championship, which is another confirmation of his rapid rise in European basketball.

It is interesting that, despite being only 33 years old, he has already built a reputation as an expert in the development of young talents, which is why many see him as one of the coaches who could leave a big mark in senior basketball in the future.
