The Cathedral Church of the Most Holy Mother of God in Zenica has been returned to the ownership of the Serbian Orthodox Church, announced the director of the Office for Public and Cultural Diplomacy, Arnaud Guyon.
“Thanks to the media and institutional struggle of the people from Republika Srpska and Serbia, the church in Zenica has been returned to the ownership of the Serbian Orthodox Church, as it should have been from the beginning,” Guyon wrote on the social network X.
He welcomed the decision of the competent federal court, as he stated, for recognizing the real and historical owner and expressed hope that such an approach will continue throughout the Federation and that property will be registered to the true owners, regardless of religious or national affiliation.

“We particularly emphasize the role of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Serbs in the Federation of BiH, which for years has systematically pointed out the violation of property rights of the Serbian people and the Serbian Orthodox Church in the FBiH,” Guyon stated.
The Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Serbs in the FBiH announced last week that during the process of harmonizing land registry and cadastre data, by the decision of the municipal court in Zenica dated May 16, 2019, the church and the land around the church were registered as “state” property one through one.
The Committee stated that the court registration did not specify in more detail whether it was the property of the municipality, canton, or some other body of public authority, but instead recorded that the church is “state property.”
