Tihomir Krstić (44), who was arrested yesterday in Rakovica on suspicion of attempting to kill a 67-year-old woman on Saturday in Block 37, New Belgrade, has a packed criminal record and has been convicted at least seven times for theft, robbery, and obstructing an official in the performance of official duties.

As confirmed to Kurir, he was first convicted in 2003 at the age of 22 by the then Second Municipal Court, sentenced to one year in prison for theft.

– His next conviction was handed down by the then First Municipal Court in Belgrade in 2004, also for one year and compulsory drug treatment. He was then convicted in 2006 by the District Court in Belgrade for the same offense. That same year, the Second Municipal Court sentenced him to one year and two months in prison. Six years later, in 2012, he was sentenced by the First Basic Court to four and a half years for aggravated theft, robbery, and obstructing an official in the performance of duties. The Second Basic Court in 2016 sentenced him to five years and six months for aggravated theft, and in the same year, he reached a plea agreement for robbery and was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison – Kurir confirmed the number of times Krstić was convicted.

He was last released from Zabela prison in Požarevac about two months ago.

It is alleged that on Saturday, around 1 p.m., in a residential building in New Belgrade, Krstić stabbed a 67-year-old woman with a knife while she was returning from a nearby park with her grandson. Security camera footage shows Krstić following them into the building, letting them pass, and then stabbing the woman, who had her back turned to him, nine times. He then dragged the seriously injured woman to the ground, stole her bag, and walked out of the building.

– Witnesses who saw him near the scene of the attack identified him at the police station today, a Kurir source confirmed.

The search for him ended yesterday when Belgrade police officers arrested him in Rakovica. According to unofficial information, he told officers that he was “HIV positive and a drug addict,” and that this was the reason he attacked the woman he had seen in the park by chance.

Unofficial sources say Tihomir Krstić is expected to be brought in for questioning tomorrow at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, which is investigating him for attempted murder during robbery. Krstić faces a prison sentence ranging from ten years to life.

According to unofficial reports, at the time of his arrest, he was living with a woman he met after his release from prison in October. He reportedly has a daughter and is originally from Sombor.
