TRAGEDY IN MOROCCO: Two buildings collapse in the middle of the night, at least 19 dead! (VIDEO)

At least 19 people have died and 16 were injured in the collapse of two buildings in the Moroccan city of Fez, local media reported today.

The residential buildings collapsed overnight in the Al Mostakbal Al Masira neighborhood in the Zuaga district, a densely populated area with old housing infrastructure, according to the English-language local portal Hespress.com.

Several residents were trapped under the rubble, and emergency services launched an immediate response.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that local residents and volunteers were the first to react before specialized rescue teams arrived, helping to pull a child from the debris. Authorities stated that the official number of victims has not yet been confirmed, noting that rescue teams are still searching for survivors under the ruins of the collapsed buildings.

During the night, emergency teams brought heavy machinery and lighting equipment to support the rescue efforts, local media reports said.

The collapse of the two buildings overnight has reignited concerns over the safety of structures in older working-class neighborhoods in Fez, where residents have repeatedly warned about deteriorating buildings and ongoing delays in their renovation.

The incident follows a deadly building collapse in another neighborhood in Fez in 2025, which increased public pressure for stricter housing controls and faster interventions in high-risk buildings.

Local authorities have urged residents to stay away from unstable buildings and to report visible structural damage and risks.

Officials said that families displaced by the building collapses will be provided with emergency shelter and assistance.
