Dijana Hrka, who has been on a hunger strike for 14 days, addressed the gathered journalists yesterday and asked whether it was possible that none of the institutions were reacting to her pleas. She added that the institutions still were not doing their job.
“You all know that I received an IV today, I am very weak, my circulation isn’t working, it’s all a consequence of not moving and not eating. I even received a bit of oxygen today. We will see how everything goes. You see that the authorities are not reacting to all this. I could truly die right next to them, the institutions still will not start doing their job. Not a single institution, when it comes to me, has started doing its job,” Hrka said in her address to the media, as reported by N1.
When asked whether she would end the hunger strike if the authorities called her or initiated something, Hrka replied through tears:
“I will not betray my child, I swore, I need justice and truth, for him and for others, and I think the prosecution is blind and deaf to everything, not just to me. They don’t care at all about what is happening here. You see that we don’t even have water or electricity, and they have everything across the street (in Ćacilendo). For the first time they did not allow even a portable toilet for me when they heard it was for me, and now I don’t need it. We are two Serbias. And I am supposed to talk to the president? I don’t need to talk to him about anything. Let him stay with his thugs and criminals, I will stay here where I am.”
She says she will have to receive IV fluids daily, and that it is becoming a problem that she has begun sleeping more and more, “because you know what can come from that.” “I don’t know anything in advance.” When asked whether she would call on or appeal to citizens and journalists to take action, she quietly replied that she “entered all of this alone.”
“They tried to keep me in the hospital (the doctors), but I cannot leave these people here.”
Hrka was examined by doctors, and according to veterans who are present around Dijana’s tent and who spoke to journalists, her vital signs are stable considering that she has been on hunger strike for 14 consecutive days.
On Friday, Dijana Hrka was also taken to the hospital to receive an IV, and in the afternoon she was returned to the tent.
Hrka has become quite weak in the past few days and has recently begun using a wheelchair to move around, and she has authorized Velibor Mikić to address the media on her behalf.
Yesterday, he came before journalists with the information that unknown individuals had contacted Hrka’s other son by phone and asked him to influence his mother to end the hunger strike.
This event reportedly upset Hrka.
“Last night there was a problem, she became somewhat distressed, because she received information that some individuals contacted her other son from an unknown number, presenting themselves as police officers,” Mikić told journalists, as reported by N1.
