This weekend, the traditional Kotlićijada was held at the Church of the Holy Resurrection in Chicago, an event that attracts more and more visitors every year. And with good reason, because… Kotlićijada is a chance to taste delicacies you won’t find at any other Serbian festival in America, nor on the menus of Serbian or Balkan restaurants.

That’s why seasoned visitors fast for a few days beforehand, and on the day of Kotlićijada itself – they skip breakfast.

Because, let’s face it, it would be a shame to get full too quickly at such a place and not be able to try everything that’s offered here. And there was plenty to try – various kinds of soups, goulash, and stews, wild game delicacies, wedding cabbage, beans, fish soup, and of course – roasted meat!

We started our tour at the stand of last year’s winners, the “Serbian Hunters” team, who traditionally prepare specialties made from non-domestic animals. This year’s menu featured – a trophy deer!

The biggest problem with Kotlićijada is that everything gets eaten up fast, so if you happen to be late or get caught up in conversation, you’ll be greeted, as we were – by empty pots and cauldrons!

At Kotlićijada we met many familiar faces from the Serbian community in Chicago, including the well-known actor Stefan Jevtović, who enjoyed the company of the fairer sex.

And so, once the pots were emptied, attention turned to glasses and bottles, while some even did a bit of “pumping” as they waited for the announcement of the winners. To shorten the suspense, we went in search of the jury…

A little later, the jury became more specific, and we found out that the winning throne was taken by the team “Taste of Homeland”, second place went to “Bears, Bosnian of course”, while the bronze medal was won by the team “Origin”.

Everyone agreed that next year they must maintain the quality and increase the quantity, to feed all the hungry mouths at Kotlićijada 2026.

After all, take a look at the report our team filmed on the spot…
