Students who are part of the ongoing protests have released a statement on social media following last night’s demonstrations across Serbia, claiming that the government intended to provoke a civil war through the clashes.
“The regime decided who was to blame long ago—the students and citizens are to blame. The state leadership is no longer hiding behind phrases about dialogue; the president has announced a ‘cleansing.’ The police once again protected regime loyalists who threw rocks and launched pyrotechnics at demonstrators. They even confronted the people with a pistol,” the students wrote in an Instagram post, as reported by Nova.rs. They added that they “will not allow them to continue destroying human lives.”

Protests and Clashes Across Serbia
Protests were held throughout Serbia last night in response to the incidents and police actions at rallies the day before in Vrbas and Bačka Palanka. In most cities, SNS supporters gathered in front of their party’s offices before the protesting citizens arrived.
SNS members also attacked citizens with pyrotechnics last night during a protest in Novi Sad, which led to clashes. An unidentified man drew a pistol in front of the SNS offices in that city. Belgrade residents attempted to reach “Ćaciland,” but the police prevented them, so they blocked Slavija Square and the surrounding streets.
