Once the son of a poor cart driver, and today a great host with the most powerful horses in the region. Sima Simić from the hamlet of Greda near Valjevo has been dedicating his life to breeding these noble animals for decades. His stud farm today is among the most appreciated in the Balkans, and the crown of his work is the largest horse in the region, over two meters tall and weighing almost a ton, which dominates every competition in which it appears.

“Horses are part of my identity. Even as a child, while I was pulling gravel and sand from the Kolubara with my father, I thought about what it would be like to have the best horses in Serbia. Today, I can proudly say that my horses are not only the best, but also recognized throughout the Balkans,” says Simić.

Sima’s stud farm currently numbers about twenty horses, among which champion stallions, purebred mares and promising foals stand out. His largest horse, Zamfir, who was nicknamed “The Giant of Greda”, is a real phenomenon. Weighing over 1,000 kilograms.

“His height, strength and posture are what everyone notices at first glance. However, what really sets him apart is his calmness and intelligence. Such horses are rarely born,” says Simić, proudly showing his champion.

In addition to impressive proportions, this incredible giant can boast enviable results at competitions.

“This horse is unbeatable in its category. At all domestic and international shows, he wears gold medals. People come from all over Serbia, but also from abroad, to see him live,” adds Simić.

Besides Zamfir, Simić’s horses are known for their top genetics.

“We have several lines of horses that we carefully maintain. Every horse in the stud farms carries the genes of champions, and each new generation surpasses the previous one. When you have such horses, every step in breeding must be well thought out,” he points out.

Sima’s stable is not only a place for breeding, but also adapted to the top conditions for horses of that size.

“When the Giant arrived, we had to expand the boxes, raise the roofs and strengthen the structure. Such a horse requires special conditions, but the effort paid off,” explains Simić.

His dedication to horses goes beyond breeding. Simić often organizes shows and events dedicated to horse breeding, where he promotes the importance of preserving this tradition.

“Horses are part of our history, culture and life. Investing in them is not only my job, but also my mission – to preserve what generations before me have done,” he adds.

Simić’s stud farm can boast not only championship results but also great interest from experts and horse lovers.

“People come from Slovenia, Croatia, and even Austria, interested in our horses. This is not only recognition for me, but also for our region and our heritage,” Simić points out.

In addition to breeding, Simić carefully monitors the health and nutrition of his horses.

“Every horse has special treatment. Their diet is tailored to their needs, and veterinary care is at the highest level. Big horses like Zamfir require extra attention, but every effort is worth it when you see the results,” he explains.

Sima’s stud farm has become a symbol of quality and tradition. His champions dominate the arenas, while the largest horse in the Balkans remains an unsurpassed icon of strength and nobility.

“These horses are not just animals. They are part of my life, part of my heritage and part of our common future,” concludes Simić with a smile.
