Surveillance cameras captured the incredible moment when a security worker, licensed to carry a firearm, shot two robbers who attempted to mug him while he was working outside an elementary school in Chicago on Friday. Police reported that one of the robbers was killed, while the other was critically wounded, while the security worker himself was unharmed.
The video (below) shows a garbage truck pulling into a service area next to DRW College Prep, located at 931 South Homan Avenue, at around 5:18 AM. The 28-year-old victim, who was apparently working alone, is seen walking from the driver’s side to the back of the truck, when he immediately notices two robbers approaching from the passenger’s side.
One of the robbers, apparently larger than the other, confronts the victim, while the second approaches with a gun. The victim appears to push the gun away with his forearm while struggling with the larger robber.
As the gunman raises his weapon again, the victim fires at least three shots, disabling the armed robber, who collapses to the ground.
Seemingly unfazed, the second robber becomes even more aggressive, grappling with the victim and wrapping his arms around him. The worker fires several more shots, disabling the second robber, who falls to the ground, dragging the victim down with him.

The footage ends with the victim getting up and walking out of the alley, leaving both robbers lying motionless on the wet pavement behind him. Warning: The video may be disturbing to some viewers.
Officials reported that 42-year-old Kenneth Elliott was killed during the confrontation. He was the larger of the two suspects. According to Chicago Police Department (CPD), the second robber is a 20-year-old man who remains in critical condition.
Paramedics also transported the security worker to St. Anthony Hospital for evaluation, but police confirmed that he is in good condition.
