Almost all elementary and secondary schools in Banja Luka received a bomb threat. Parents of students from one elementary school told Glas Srpske that they received a message this morning that children should not come to class for the first shift because the police were conducting an inspection, Srpskainfo reports.

Children from a large number of elementary schools are returning home, and classes have been canceled. Teachers did not tell them the reasons but told them to quickly leave the building in columns.

Miroslav Popržen, president of the Association of Elementary School Principals in the Banja Luka region, says that almost all city schools in Banja Luka received a threatening email and that the police are on the scene. Until the bomb squad completes the inspection, no one can stay in the school.

Popržen told ATV that emails with messages about planted bombs arrived during the night, and the police were immediately alerted this morning.

“The procedure is such that no one can enter the school until a bomb disposal inspection is carried out. I don’t think there is any need to panic, the police will do their job. We cannot take such messages lightly,” said Poprzen.

He also said that teachers will inform parents about the development of the situation.

“Teachers will inform parents about the further development of the situation, if everything is in order, classes will continue in the second shift,” says Popržen and recalls that a similar situation happened a few years ago.

“An email arrived during the night. There was nothing, I hope there won’t be anything now. But we cannot take such a threat lightly,” says Poprzen.
