Barcelona’s basketball players did not allow Crvena zvezda to return from a double away stretch with two wins, as they triumphed in their Blaugrana after overtime 92:88. There was plenty of drama, which the home team created for themselves.
The clash, which had its own unusual prelude in the form of a problem for the Serbian club that was left without jerseys after washing, started with a scheduled delay of half an hour, as new equipment was awaited from the airport after being sent from Belgrade.
Nevertheless, the game eventually started, and very well for the red-and-whites. Both teams opened the match firmly, with Joel Bolomboy marking the early stage with six points up to the score of 8:8.
Jordan Nwora hit a three-pointer to give the visitors an 11:8 lead, while Hassiel Rivero, who had nine points by the break, added to that. The red-and-whites more or less held the difference until two minutes before the end of the first quarter, when free throws and a three-pointer by Brizuela brought a turnaround. Still, Rivero secured a 20:18 lead for the team from Mali Kalemegdan at the end of the first ten minutes.

As a rule, the quarters started slowly in terms of scoring, but in the second half of the second quarter both teams finally found their rhythm. At that point, Joel Parra stepped up.
On one side it was Nwora, on the other him, and the Barcelona forward, along with Norris, managed to take the home team to 40:32. However, that was not all from the visitors in this part of the match.
The Serbian side went to the free-throw line frequently toward the end of the half, mostly converting, which cut the home team’s lead to just 42:40…
Dobrić opened the second half with a three-pointer, although shooting had not really served either team from the start. The back-and-forth in the opening minutes of the third quarter was broken thanks to inspired Will Clyburn, who scored six consecutive points and turned a one-point deficit into a 53:48 lead for Barca.
The quarter practically ended in that rhythm, while the red-and-whites somehow stayed in the game thanks to Nwora, who scored five straight points at one moment to reduce it to 55:53. Despite the opponent, through Satoransky, Veselý and Punter, restoring a solid lead of 64:58, optimism remained in Zvezda’s ranks.
A miracle happened in the final quarter, which after three and a half minutes began with a score of 2:2. Barca flirted with a double-digit lead, and at 68:60 Ojeleye hit a very, very important three-pointer.
Nwora brought the game back within two possessions, but everyone thought it was over when Cody Miller-McIntyre threw an air ball with 34 seconds remaining, after which Shengelia increased the lead to five.
Butler made all three free throws with 13 seconds left, and the same player secured overtime after a drive, as the home team failed to close out the game with missed free throws!
Overtime started excitingly, with Clyburn and Butler exchanging three-pointers, but then Will and Satoransky steered the game in the direction the Spanish club’s fans wanted.
Zvezda had a possession at 89:86 to tie the game, but they failed to capitalize, which ultimately proved decisive, and in the free-throw finish Barcelona secured the win and improved to 20-14. Zvezda dropped to tenth place with a 19-15 record.
