The choir of Karlovac Gymnasium left the school’s ceremonial hall before the start of the event celebrating the school’s patron saint, Saint Sava, due to the presence of the Mayor, Dražen Đurđić.
According to citizens who attended the celebration, the choir left the hall because of the presence of representatives of the Sremski Karlovci Municipality, including Mayor Dražen Đurđić, reports 021.rs.
“Representatives of the Municipality and Đurđić entered the ceremonial hall before the start of the Saint Sava celebration. The students immediately left the hall after they entered and went to the courtyard, where they held their performance. Only the students of the Theological School remained,” stated a resident of Novi Sad who attended the event.
The students also addressed the incident on their Instagram profile, created during previous blockades.
“At the Saint Sava celebration in our school, a person arrived who has not been welcome in Karlovac Gymnasium for the past 14 months, a view shared by the majority of students. The choir of our gymnasium expressed the stance of the entire school and refused to perform in front of people who attacked us last November and December. Dražen Đurđić, Mayor of the Municipality, you are not welcome in our school,” the students of Karlovac stated.
It should be recalled that during the “Stop, Serbia” action held on Fridays at 11:52 a.m., on November 29, 2024, an incident occurred at the intersection in front of Karlovac Gymnasium, with Mayor Dražen Đurđić present.
Jovana Šućov, a teacher at the gymnasium, told 021.rs that on that day, students of the first and third grades independently decided to block the intersection in front of the school and hold a 15-minute tribute to the victims of a canopy collapse.
The next attack on the students occurred about three weeks later, during a student protest in the schoolyard, when unknown individuals threw two explosive devices at the students.
The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad dismissed the criminal complaint filed by parents and teachers of Karlovac Gymnasium students regarding the attacks on the school’s pupils.
