It is estimated that there are over 10,000 healthcare professionals of Serbian origin in the United States, and among them are those who came here from Serbia and the Balkans, as well as those who were born in America.

A good part of them is gathered in the Serbian-American Society of Physicians and Dentists, which recently celebrated 32 years of existence and work and also marked its feast day, Saint Cosmas and Damian, in Chicago.

The president of the society, Dr. Nebojša Knežević, announces that the goal is to gather all medical professionals from our region in the coming period, more precisely to form an online database of all our doctors, so that our compatriots living in all American states know and have someone to turn to when medical help is needed.

Dr. Ljiljana Svjetlica, a dentist, is the newest and youngest member of the board of the Serbian-American Society of Physicians and Dentists.

She says that one of the most important roles of the Society is to help our people who have just arrived in these areas, those who need medical help the most, as well as medical students who come here to study.

She emphasized the great importance of prevention in patients and announced that free check-ups will be organized in December in three Serbian churches in the wider Chicago area.
