Saint Nicholas Day, they say, is the greatest Serbian holiday, and many celebrate it in our American diaspora, especially in the largest Serbian city overseas, Chicago.
They say that when Saint Nicholas Day comes, half of Serbia celebrates, and the other half goes to celebrate, as guests. Translated into numbers, that roughly means that today, around half a million people will be celebrating in Chicago and the surrounding area.
On this day, as tradition dictates, a lean feast is prepared, a slava cake is taken to church, and we took a peek into the home of a Serbian family to see what it all looks like. And not just any family, but the family with the most children in our entire diaspora…
