The United States of America will no longer mediate peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, the U.S. State Department has announced.

Spokeswoman Temi Bruce stated that the U.S. is changing “the methodology of how we contribute” to the negotiations and will no longer “fly around the world at the first call” for meetings.

Kyiv and Moscow must now present “concrete” proposals to end the war and meet directly to resolve the conflict, Bruce added.

“We will continue to help, but we will no longer fly around the world as mediators at meetings,” she told reporters.

“Now it’s all on the two sides. It’s time for them to present and develop concrete ideas on how to end this conflict. That will be up to them.”

She added that Trump “knows there is another part of the world, an entire planet that requires some attention.”

Washington’s withdrawal from direct mediation comes after previous warnings from the U.S. that it would step back from talks if its peace proposal were rejected by both Ukraine and Russia.

Secretary of State Marko Rubio and Donald Trump had earlier warned that the United States would withdraw from mediation efforts if no significant progress was made.

“The Secretary also made it clear that while our style will change, our methodology of contribution will shift in the sense that we will no longer be mediators,” Bruce recalled.

Later, Trump issued a threat of withdrawal on the social network Truth Social. “If one of the two sides makes things too difficult, we’ll just say: ‘you are fools, you’re stupid, horrible people,’ and we’ll just walk away,” he stated.

The United States initially proposed a 30-day ceasefire agreement, which Kyiv accepted.

However, not only did Moscow reject that ceasefire proposal and other plans to end the bloody war, but Russian forces also intensified attacks in Ukraine.

On Tuesday, the State Department announced it would withdraw from its mediator role if it does not see “concrete proposals” from Moscow and Kyiv for ending the conflict.

At the end of last month, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said: “We have laid out a very clear proposal to both the Russians and the Ukrainians, and it’s time for them to say ‘yes’ — or for the U.S. to walk away from this process.”
