Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said today that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is issuing threats to him while, as he stated, “the Hungarian opposition stands on the side of Kyiv and Brussels.” Orbán wrote on the platform X that the plan of the EU and Ukraine is to establish a pro-Ukrainian government in Budapest that would send Hungarian money to Kyiv and separate Hungary from cheap Russian energy sources.
“We will defend the interests of our nation. Count on it,” Orbán said.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Thursday that no one can threaten Hungary or its prime minister, reacting to Zelensky’s statement that he could “give the address of one person in the European Union” who is blocking European aid to Kyiv, so that Ukrainian soldiers could “call and talk to him in their own language.”
“This has crossed every line. This is Ukraine. This is the kind of ‘culture’ that comes from Kyiv. And this is the man whom Brussels respects and the country they want to quickly admit into the European Union,” Szijjártó wrote on the platform X.
He also added that no matter how much Zelensky threatens and how closely he cooperates with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the leader of the European People’s Party (EPP) Manfred Weber, Budapest will not allow them to drag Hungary into the war.

“I will not accept Ukraine’s demands, even if they blackmail me — they behave like bandits”
He also says that the Hungarian government and he personally bother Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky because they do not fulfill his demands, which is why he wants to “get rid of them.” He told Radio Kossuth that he will not give in to blackmail and threats.
“We will not fulfill the Ukrainian demand to get rid of Russian oil, but we will not continue to support the Ukrainian war, nor will we give them money, and we will not allow Ukraine to enter the EU, because that would destroy the entire national economy. I will not accept their demands, even if they blackmail or threaten me,” Orbán said, as reported by Magyar Nemzet.
He also repeated that the Druzhba oil pipeline has no technical problems that would prevent oil from reaching Hungary and that it is a political decision.

“Ukraine undertook the obligation to transport it under an international agreement, yet in comparison they are blackmailing Hungary. Moreover, they do not hide the fact that they provide political and financial support to the opposition Tisa party because they want a pro-Ukrainian government in Hungary. Among other things, they would like to encourage this through an oil shortage, that is, by increasing fuel prices,” Orbán said and added that the Ukrainian leadership is behaving “like bandits” toward Hungary.
He emphasized that Hungary has suspended the delivery of gasoline and diesel to Ukraine and that, if necessary, it will suspend other things that are important to them as well.
“The Ukrainians will run out of money faster than we will run out of oil. Hungary is being hit by two things at once, the war in the Middle East and the oil blockade, and that is why it is a capital crime that Ukraine is committing because it is violating an international agreement,” he concluded.
Let us recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously told Orbán that he would direct the Ukrainian armed forces toward him if Hungary continues to obstruct the EU loan to Ukraine worth 90 billion euros.
“We hope that a certain person will not block the loan of 90 billion or its first tranche in the European Union, and then the Ukrainians will have weapons. Otherwise, we will give the address of that person to our armed forces, to our sons, let them call him and talk to him in their own language,” Zelensky said, as reported by Hirado.
Budapest took this step in response to Kyiv suspending the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba oil pipeline.
The Hungarian government has repeatedly stated that it will not accept the accelerated admission of Ukraine into the EU and that it will not send the money of its citizens to it.
