U.S. President Donald Trump has called for the arrest of former U.S. President Barack Obama over what he described as fabricated allegations that Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election, American Conservative magazine reported.
According to the outlet, Trump said in a post on social media that Obama personally ordered the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to fabricate false intelligence regarding the course of the 2016 election. Trump characterized these actions as an attempted coup, for which, he emphasized, the former president must be held accountable.
The magazine recalls that several days before Trump’s message was published, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in the presence of certain senior officials from Donald Trump’s administration, seized documents from the Fulton County election center related to the 2020 presidential election, which was won by Democratic Party candidate Joseph Biden, Sputnik reports.
At the same time, it is recalled that in July 2025, U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released a report stating that the Obama administration, following Trump’s victory in the 2016 election, effectively fabricated intelligence about alleged Russian interference in the electoral process. According to her, the goal was to prevent Trump from exercising power.
Gabbard emphasized that in the months leading up to the election, the U.S. intelligence community was unanimous in its assessment that Russia neither had the intent nor the capability to interfere in the election. However, in December 2016, after Trump’s victory, the Obama administration allegedly ordered the preparation of a new report that contradicted earlier assessments, with the key conclusion — that Russia did not influence the outcome of the election — removed and placed under classification.
