U.S. President Donald Trump criticized his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky for not having “read the proposal” for peace in Ukraine, which Washington presented three weeks ago and which is the subject of separate discussions with Moscow and Kyiv.
“We spoke with (Russian) President Vladimir Putin, we spoke with Ukrainian leaders—including President Zelensky—and I must say I’m a bit disappointed that President Zelensky still hasn’t read the American proposal” for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, Trump said late last night while speaking to reporters at a ceremony in Washington.
“It (the plan) suits Russia; I think Russia would prefer to have the whole country, but I’m not sure it suits Zelensky,” Trump added.
Since the U.S. plan was presented nearly three weeks ago, several rounds of talks have been held with the Ukrainians in Geneva and Florida in an attempt to amend the text in favor of Kyiv.
The document was also presented to Putin on Tuesday during the visit to Moscow of U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the U.S. president’s son-in-law and informal mediator.
Few details have emerged about the revised plan, after Kyiv and European officials viewed the initial version as largely favorable to Russia.
