U.S. President Donald Trump announced today that he has revoked federal protection for former high-ranking American health official Dr. Anthony Fauci.
The $15 million annual protection for Dr. Fauci, funded by taxpayers, has been withdrawn, Trump confirmed at a press conference, as reported by the New York Post.
“I think when you work for the government, at some point, your protection ends, and you know, you can’t have it forever,” Trump said in response to a journalist’s question during a briefing on the government’s response to the hurricane in Asheville, North Carolina, in October 2024, which claimed more than 50 lives.
According to Trump, protection has also been removed for other individuals.

As reported by the New York Post, Trump was likely referring to former National Security Advisor John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
“They can hire their own security… I can give them a good list of very competent security personnel. Fauci made a lot of money. Everyone made money,” Trump emphasized.
Earlier this month, the BBC reported that Joseph Biden, the outgoing U.S. President at the time, had preemptively pardoned Anthony Fauci, the former Chief Medical Advisor during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as members of the investigative committee for the January 6 Capitol riots.
Trump, who was sworn in on Monday, frequently clashed with Fauci during the pandemic and hinted that he would take action against those he held responsible for the January 6 Capitol riots, according to Tanjug.
