Tiger Woods was arrested on Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to Martin County Sheriff John Budensik.
Tiger Woods was driving a “Land Rover” and struck a pickup truck that was towing a small trailer, Budensik told reporters. The collision caused Woods’ “Land Rover” to roll onto its side, CNN reports.
When police arrived at the scene, Woods was showing signs of intoxication, Budensik said.
“Our DUI investigators responded to the scene. And Mr. Woods was showing signs of intoxication,” Budensik said.
The investigation showed that Woods was driving erratically shortly before the crash.
“Our investigation showed the following: Shortly before 2 p.m., a pressure-washing vehicle towing a small trailer was traveling north on South Beach Road and preparing to turn into a driveway. It was slowing down and began turning, and the driver of that vehicle looked in the rearview mirror and saw a dark-colored ‘Land Rover’ approaching at high speed. I don’t know the exact speed.”
“The ‘Land Rover’ continued to approach. He saw it coming, so he tried to move toward the edge of the road. However, it is a narrow two-lane road and there was no space on the side for the man to move out of the way. As he attempted to move aside, the ‘Land Rover’ caught up with him and at the last moment swerved to avoid a collision, but struck the rear of the pressure-washing trailer, tilted to the side and then rolled over onto the driver’s door, passing by the truck it had just avoided,” he added.
“The person driving that ‘Land Rover’ managed to crawl out through the passenger door and was identified as Mr. Tiger Woods,” he concluded.
