Two people have died, and three are in serious condition, after the attack in front of a synagogue on the holiest Jewish holiday Yom Kippur in Manchester.
Counter-terrorism police confirmed that the attacker in this morning’s attack on the synagogue in Manchester was Jihad al Sheimi (35), a British citizen of Syrian origin. The attacker was killed by police officers, reports Index.hr.
Authorities confirmed that the attacker entered the United Kingdom as a small child and obtained British citizenship in 2006.
“Based on what we currently know, our investigation shows no previous counter-terrorism investigations related to this person,” the police stated.
They also added that three more people have been arrested – two men around thirty years old and a woman around 60, suspected of participation, incitement, and preparation for terrorist acts.
Police confirmed that two men were pronounced dead at the scene of the attack, in front of the synagogue in Manchester, while three more men are in hospital with serious injuries. One of them sustained a stab wound, another was hit by a car that took part in the attack, and the third later reported to the hospital himself with an injury believed to have occurred while police were stopping the attacker.
Investigators are working on the official identification of the deceased and determining the motive for the attack.
